Monkey Talk is a pile of good advice about conversations. Good enough to be sometimes reread, and funny enough to make one smile.

A moment ago I got a phone call where a youngish female voice asked me to repeat my name as she was uncertain she had called the right number. Only after hanging up I realized that my name is probably not at all recognizable to someone who knew me before my first name changed in 1994. Eventually I called back, just to inquire who she were trying to reach and it indeed was me. This time I didn't miss a high school reunion, but this left me wondering if I've missed somethings like that already.

I personally ended up taking my husband's family name, and I'm happy with the decision (as his does not have Scandinavian letters in it) but if I were to give advice for others I'd recommend career orientated women to keep their own family name so that their earlier work can be connected to their current name.

Couple of days ago, when attending a networking event of Hyny I had an eye-opening experience. It's not just geeks anymore that know what Linux is. Every entrepreneur that I talked to, even ones in the fields of wellness and cleaning, knew what Linux is. Earlier I had been in the impression it has become more well known, but I had no idea Linux has become this well known.

If you could choose any compliment to your appearance, what kind would you choose? Mine might go something like this: "Looks pretty average but when she notices you, and smiles, you feel like the most important person in the world".

Thanks to sites like Digg, the April Fools has become a multiday event. People submit their jokes on April 1st and then it takes a day or or two for them to get digged for the front page.

According to Hot or Not Captcha I'm human only three tries out of ten if I'm looking at pictures of women and only once out of 10 tries when looking at pictures of men.

This is probably the hardest captcha I have ever run into and I'm starting to think there must be a bot that is better at it than I am. After all, there are programs that are already quite good at judging beauty. I wonder if one might get better results be writing and running a cleavage detection program. For me Hot or Not Capthca works as a passtime but not as anything else. Maybe it works great for people staring at Hot or Not site all day and not having much taste of their own when it comes to people.

Inspired by a discussion yesterday I started thinking what would take for me to commit a terrorist act. I'm not even always sure what is to be considered a terrorist act. I might join the resistance if some rogue nation came to liberate my country. They'd call us terrorists, we'd call ourselves freedom fighters.

If all books were banned, I might plant explosives in the book burning center if peaceful resistance failed.

If my people were systematically tortured, and the average person would just shrug and say "they deserve it" who knows what I'd do if talking to them would not help and no one would answer our call for help.

What would it take for you to commit a terrorist act?

Kiva collects 'loans that change lives' for private people and small businesses in developing countries. Participating seem like a nice (by the way, nice is 'kiva' in Finnish) way to give targetted foreign aid when you do not have much money to donate.

Recently my hair became brown for the first time after 12 years of various shades of reds. The weird thing is that no one noticed the change before it was pointed out to them. My mother even noticed the hair being 4 cm shorter and still did not notice it being now mid-brown instead of the previous red.
