I discovered my Serendipity database was huge, really big - almost 90M. Turned out every nasty spam comment had gotten logged into serendipity_spamblocklog table. I changed spamblock settings so that it logs to a file, and then did TRUNCATE TABLE serendipity_spamblocklog;

Now the database is less than 1M and I'm one happy camper.

Dates and themes

I noticed today that the permalinked entries do not show the date of writing. That's just naughty. I'm trying to decide whether to fix it for this theme or whether to change themes completely. What do you think?

Thanks to the kind people of s9y.org, I got it fixed now. Seems I was fooled by the indentation used.

It seems my not-so-frequent blogging has become at most weekly. In case you are wondering what's going on, here is the short summary:

- Busy at work
- A bit coldish, and because of being busy, I didn't rest early enough.
- Playing Twilight Princess (Zelda) on Wii
- Thinking and talking about a business idea with R

and as always, various projects, books, needs, and people have taken what's left.

Email addresses and Serendipity

Worry not about the weird "E-Mail addresses will not be displayed and will only be used for E-Mail notifications", it's the default text in Serendipity and the addresses will not be used for any kind of notification unless you specifically ask for that. I'll be looking into making that text better (maybe configurable) in near future.

Serendipity also offers a possibility to subscribe to an entry, but I've disabled that until I have tested it a bit.

I'm also planning to look into what happens if the email addresses in comments are set to be hidden and then later set to be shown. Will the email addresses of the people who had been told their addresses would not be shown be then shown anyway? That would not be kind.

Creative Commons to the rescue!

There are literally millions of photos under Creative Commons on Flickr. I was desperate for new title art for this art, so I headed for the ones that allowed derivate works. After cropping and gazing at flowers, mountains and parasols I found a nice shot by David Reeves. Some time later the title art you see above was born.
