This song was so very beautiful and I could not find the lyrics anywhere, so I had to transcribe them:

Death has come to a house
It surrounds us every day

Life has lost its meaning
Why am I here?
Why am I?

Awful pain overwhelms my soul
It makes me hurt and cry and lose control

Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

Do not make dreams your master
Don't make thoughts your aim
If you can meet with disaster,
treat those demons just the same

If you can hear the truth you've spoken
twisted to make a trap for fools
So, hold on when there's nothing in you
except the will that says to you:

Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die

I can't maintain myself
I can be myself
I can't control my soul
My anguish overpowers my soul

I have nothing left
I have no one who understands

I have to leave

I have become too frail

Richard says the fragrance Saddle smells like a new sofa, I think it smells like an old saddle. Surprisingly, no significant memories triggered in me, despite spending multiple years in my life around horses, just a vague memory of the saddle racks at the Jokela's in Kuivaniemi. Yet another leather smell, so far none of them as good as real leather but all of them pretty ok.

I like paperbacks but I don't really like the smell of most paperbacks. Some smell like cat pee, others just sickeningly sweet. The scent triggers a whole lot of pleasant bookstore memories, but I still don't like the scent itself.

The Demeter fragrance Leather smells just like new leather. I wonder what it takes to make the scent. The only memory associations I got were visiting a tiny leather store in Amsterdam and seeing my Raw Hide suitcase out of the box for the first time.

This particular Demeter scent does not connect really solidly with anything for me. I can smell the leather smell occasionally, but not sure what the rest of the scent is. I think I need a second opinion, or third and fourth.

This fragrance does indeed smell like a wet garden, though a very heavily floral wet garden. Somehow it makes me feel slightly sad. Maybe it reminds me of my grandmother's garden and about how she is no longer. I wonder if my sister will like it better, or my mother.

Demeter's Rubber smells indeed like rubber but somehow makes me think more of a motorcycle standing on hot asphalt than of rubber clothing. Still, a very vivid smell, and this way more pleasant for me. A particular street/place in Turku comes to mind, though I'm not quite sure why.

As some of you might know, I'm now kinda bilingual, equally comfortable and (uncomfortable?) with English as with Finnish. Almost every time I run through what I'm planning to say in my head, I do it in the other language than what I'm actually likely to use. I have no idea why. It's not a conscious choice by any means. The downside of this is that I might in the end still not know what to say, the upside is that what I say will not be practiced to death, no matter how often I have been running it in my head.

How do you other bilingual people do this? I know that not everyone 'practices' conversations at all... even I don't do it often, it just always catches my attention when I do.

Demeter's fireplace does indeed smell like fireplace, but I never know until now that burning something that smells like cedar was that common. Interesting. Here we mostly burn pine. Before you realize it's fireplace, this scent is quite 'male' in my opinion, which is very weird considering my normal indifference to the male/female division.

I forgot to take a brooch along on my trip to the Netherlands and I desperately needed it to keep a wrap top from gaping. So I went to jewellery store to buy one. There was none. I tried couple of other ones, still none. One jewellery store clerk did not really even know what a brooch is. Eventually I found a pretty lizard brooch from an antique store. I felt ancient. My favourite whole category of jewellery has been buried.

Yesterday a stranger followed me from the train stop. Not really creepily, he said hello and we talked. Interesting this was the same stranger that did the same thing last year.

I'm somewhat wary of strangers initiating a conversation with me without there being a natural trigger for that. I find myself wondering what they want of me, and might lose a chance of a nice friendship in the process.

However, some wariness is all good and well. After all, yesterday I also saw a pigeon without toes. And I don't think it was born that way.
